Morning Pursuit Nets Fleeing Suspect With Active Warrants

Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office attempted to stop a speeding vehicle early Friday morning that led to a brief pursuit and the arrest of a Madisonville man.

According to CCSO Sgt. John Quarles, at around 7:00 am, a vehicle was traveling south bound on the Pennyrile Parkway in Christian County at around 112 miles per hour.  As Sgt. Quarles was attempting to stop the vehicle for the speeding infraction,  the suspect began to flee, leading deputies on a brief pursuit down the Pennyrile Parkway and into Hopkinsville, with speeds reaching 124 miles per hour.  The suspect wrecked his vehicle in the area of Central and Broad Street, and fled on foot through the neighborhood. With assistance from officers at the Hopkinsville Police Department, deputies were able to take the suspect into custody in the area of the 1700 block of Walnut Street. 25-year-old Malik Ratcliff of Madisonville, KY was arrested and transported to Jennie Stuart Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries he sustained from the vehicle accident. Ratcliff was the only occupant in the vehicle. Authorities ran Ratcliff’s information and discovered that he had two failure to appear warrants out of Hopkins County, KY for rape and narcotics charges.

Ratcliff is being charged with the following:

  • Speeding
  • Fleeing and Evading Police 1st Degree (Vehicle)
  • Fleeing and Evading Police (On Foot)
  • Numerous Traffic Violations
