Counterfeit Money, Firearm Seized in Morning Traffic Stop

Investigators with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Highway Interdiction Unit stopped a vehicle Tuesday morning that led to the arrest of an Illinois man.

christian county sheriff's office highway interdiction counterfeit money arrest hopkinsville kentuckyAccording to a CCSO arrest citation, Deputy Clevin Robinson stopped a vehicle on I-24 at around the 77-mile marker, eastbound for a traffic infraction. The driver, 35-year-old Kirk Curtis of Robbins, Illinois was operating the vehicle without a valid driver’s license and no insurance. Deputy Robinson obtained consent to search the vehicle and located a large amount of counterfeit currency in multiple denominations, a firearm with the serial number scratched off, and multiple rounds of ammunition. It was determined during the stop that Curtis was also a convicted felon.

Curtis was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Speeding
  • Rim or Frame Obscuring Lettering or Decal on a Registration Plate
  • Carrying a Concealed Weapon by Prior Deadly Weapon Felony Offender
  • No Insurance
  • Possession of a Defaced Firearm
  • No Operator’s License
  • Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 1st Degree
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon

Curtis was transported to the Christian County Jail.
