Brief Pursuit Leads to Slew of Charges for Hopkinsville Man

Deputies arrested a Hopkinsville man after he led officers on a pursuit on the west side of Hopkinsville early this morning (06/20).

According to an arrest report from Deputy David King, 37-year-old Jeremy Jason Nelson of Hopkinsville, KY was taken into custody after he fled from authorities stemming from a theft charge in the city. Nelson was accused of shoplifting from the Circle K on North Main Street and racked up multiple charges after he attempted to get away.
Sgt. Ed Stokes spotted the suspect vehicle on West 7th Street and attempted to stop him. Nelson fled at a high rate of speed in the areas of North Drive, Country Club Lane and Debow Park, and was eventually stopped by Deputies in the area of DaVinci’s restaurant. 

Once in custody, Nelson admitted to smoking crack cocaine approximately and hour before the incident. Search of the vehicle yielded a crack pipe with suspected cocaine reside.

Nelson was taken into custody at that time and charged with the following:

  • Fleeing/ Evading Police 1st Degree
  • Reckless Driving
  • Failure to Use Turn Signal
  • Disregarding a Stop Sign
  • No Insurance
  • Failure to Transfer Operators License
  • Disregarding a Traffic Control Device
  • Improper Turning
  • DUI (Aggravated)
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree (Cocaine)
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia

Nelson was transported to the Christian County Jail.
