With Help From K9, CCSO Nabs Car Thief

06/18/2020:

Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a Hopkinsville man for a slew of charges yesterday evening (06/18) after a brief pursuit.

According to an arrest report, at around 7:30 pm, Deputies were advised that a stolen vehicle taken from Hopkinsville was seen at the Huck’s convenience store in Crofton. Deputy Ricky Burgess spotted the vehicle traveling south bound on Madisonville Rd in the area of Cavanaugh Extension. Deputy Burgess turned around on the vehicle in an attempt to stop it, and the vehicle fled with Dep Burgess giving chase. The suspect reached speeds of up to 104 miles and hour and almost struck an assisting Kentucky State Police Trooper when he passed on a blind hill.

The vehicle then ran off the road in the area of Lake Blythe Rd, where the suspect then stopped the car and attempted to flee on foot.  After repeated calls for the suspect to stop, Deputy Burgess released his partner, K9 Chopper, to assist with the apprehension. K9 Chopper was able to locate and detain the suspect out of a woodpile where he was hiding, attempting to avoid capture.

The report indicates the suspect assaulted the K9 several times trying to escape, but Chopper held on until Deputy Burgess could detain the suspect.

24-year-old Kenneth Longstreath was taken into custody and charged with the following:
