Kidnapper Arrested After Short Pursuit

Tuesday, January 2nd, 2024, Hopkinsville, KY: Deputies arrested a male for kidnapping and other charges after a brief pursuit that started in Ashwood Village. 

According to a citation from K9 Deputy Josh Stallons, units were called to the 60 block of Peach Street in reference to a disturbance at a residence.  Dispatch advised deputies that according to the caller, a male was physically holding down a female at the residence. Units were given the name of 22-year-old Thomas Welch as being the aggressor. When they arrived at the complex, they observed a black Camaro, known to belong to Welch, leaving the complex. Deputies got behind the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. Welch refused to stop and began fleeing the scene, leading deputies to the area of Greenville Rd. and East 1st Street Extension. At that point, deputies initiated a Pursuit Intervention Technique to end the pursuit and disable the vehicle for the safety of the victim and all vehicles on the roadway. Welch was taken into custody without further incident. 

According to the victim, Welch physically grabbed her in a bear hug and forced her into the vehicle after the physical altercation at the residence. Victim states that Welch said that he was “not stopping” for authorities. 

Welch was charged with the following:

  • Kidnapping
  • Assault 4th Degree
  • Unlawful Imprisonment
  • Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree
  • Criminal Mischief 1st Degree
  • Resisting Arrest
  • Several Traffic Charges

Welch was taken to the Christian County Jail.
