Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Hopkinsville Residents after a brief pursuit Thursday night (10/20).
According to CCSO arrest citations, at around 8:00 pm Deputy Kevin Quarles attempted to stop a vehicle that veered into his lane of traffic on Eagle Way By-pass and made him turn into the emergency lane. Deputy Quarles turned and stopped the vehicle on Cox Mill Road. Once Quarles approached the vehicle to ask for documents, the driver sped away, leading officers on a pursuit. The vehicle fled down Cox Mill Rd and abruptly turned left into a bean field, lost control and landed on its side. The driver, 27-year-old Joseph Tyree, fled on foot through the bean field. The passenger, 25-year-old Emily Eiland remained on the scene and was checked for injuries. Tyree was located with the assistance of Trigg County Deputy K9 unit Gary Hicks, hiding in grass and refused to come out. Deputy Hicks’ K9 “Bolo” was able to “retrieve” Tyree from the grass.
A search of the vehicle yielded items of drug paraphernalia, a short straw containing a white powdery substance, and a syringe loaded with a brown colored liquid. Deputies also discovered several firearms in the vehicle including a handgun and a shotgun. Tyree was taken from the scene to JSMC where he was treated for his injuries and released.
Tyree was charged with Careless Driving, No Operators License, Fleeing or Evading Police 1st Degree x 2 counts, Wanton Endangerment 1st Degree, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense, and DUI, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon, No Insurance, No Registration Plates, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident. Tyree was also served with 4 warrants.
Eiland was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree, and Public Intoxication.
Both suspects were transported to the Christian County Jail.
