Traffic Stop Yields Firearms, Narcotics, and Arrest

Saturday, September 21st, 2024, Christian County, KY: Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on a motorcycle traveling eastbound on Auburn Street Saturday afternoon and made one arrest.

The motorcycle, driven by 52-year-old Melvin Knight, turned into the Quality Inn parking lot, located at 201 Auburn Street, and parked in a handicap spot. Upon initial contact, Knight fled the scene but was detained shortly after. A search of Knight’s person revealed suspected marijuana and a purple powdery substance believed to be a fentanyl/cocaine mixture. Knight admitted to possessing marijuana.

Further investigation led to the discovery of additional controlled substances, a firearm, and evidence of drug resale in Knight’s motel room. Knight’s girlfriend was present and cooperative during the search. Knight was charged with:

– Operating on Suspended or Revoked License
– No Registration Plates
– Failure to Maintain Required Insurance
– Trafficking Marijuana (over 5 lbs.)
– Possession of Controlled Substance (1st Degree)
– Possession of Cocaine (1st Degree)
–  Possession of Drug Paraphernalia 

Knight was transported to the Christian County Jail.
