A Hopkinsville man was arrested on multiple charges, including drug trafficking and possession of a handgun by a convicted felon.
On June 28th, 2024, at around noon, Detectives with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office Anti-Crime Unit (ACU), observed James T. Mitchell, 40, of Hopkinsville, KY, driving recklessly on Butler Road, crossing the center line multiple times. A traffic stop and subsequent investigation revealed:
Expired plates and no valid driver’s license or insurance, and an odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A K-9 alerted on the driver’s side of the vehicle where Synthetic marijuana, marijuana, and suspected methamphetamine (approx. 71g) were found. After the traffic stop, Probation and Parole did a check of Mitchell’s residence and located a .38 revolver in an unsecured safe. Mitchell is a convicted felon and unable to possess a firearm.
Mitchell faces charges:
1. Careless Driving 2. Failure to Maintain Required Insurance (1st Offense) 3. Possession of Marijuana 4. Possession of Synthetic Drugs (1st Offense) 5. Trafficking in Controlled Substances (1st Degree, 1st Offense) (> or = 2g methamphetamine) 6. Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.
Mitchell was transported to the Christian County Jail.
