Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a home on Petsch Lane in Christian County just after midnight on Saturday morning after receiving calls that a female had been shot.
According to an arrest citation from Deputy Strauch, deputies arrived at the home located in the 1000 block of Petsch Lane just before 1:00am. Deputies the made contact with the perpetrator and the victim, a female, and observed that she had suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.
Further investigation revealed that 47-year-old Jeffrey Proffitt and the victim were involved in an argument. At some point during the altercation, Profitt retrieved a handgun from his vehicle and began waving it around as they were bickering. During the fight, the gun went off and a bullet struck the female in the leg. She was life flighted from the scene to Vanderbilt Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. Proffitt, also a convicted felon, was arrested and charged with the following:
- Assault 1st Degree-Domestic Violence
- Possession of a Handgun by A Convicted Felon
