Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest Wednesday after an ad on Facebook Marketplace led them to a Hopkinsville man trying to sell a stolen trailer.
According to CCSO documents, the victim of a recent trailer theft was browsing Facebook Marketplace, a popular online buying and selling site, looking for his stolen property. The victim found his trailer on the site and contacted the seller to try and purchase the item. The two agreed to meet in the Wal Mart parking lot in Oak Grove Wednesday afternoon (02/22). The victim notified the Christian County Sheriff’s Office of the meeting, and a sting was coordinated. Detectives were waiting in the area off of Segler Drive when the suspect arrived in a pick-up pulling the trailer in question. Authorities converged on the vehicle driven by 41-year-old Ryan Wayne Barnett and took him into custody.
After his rights were read to him by Detectives, Barnett admitted to stealing the trailer.
After contact was made with Barnett, deputies discovered a loaded handgun in his waistband. Barnett is listed as a convicted felon and is unable to possess firearms. A further search of Barnett’s truck yielded another handgun in the side toolbox of the truck, suspected methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia.
Barnett was arrested and charged with the following:
- Theft by Deception >$1000
- Possession of Meth
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
- Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon x 2 counts
