CCSO Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Charges for Hopkinsville Man

Deputies with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for speeding on Greenville Rd. Tuesday, and arrested the driver for several charges including narcotics possession.

According to an arrest report from Deputy Scott Noisworthy, 32-year-old Cody Cantrell of Hopkinsville was stopped for going 76 mph in a 55 mph zone. During the interaction, the arrest report says Cantrell was acting nervous and erratic when asked if there were any illegal narcotics in the vehicle. Deputy Noisworthy requested a K9 unit to deploy around the vehicle at that time. Sgt. Brandon Myers and his K9 “Hamer” responded, with “Hamer” indicating on the vehicle. A search of the vehicle yielded drug paraphernalia including spoons with suspected narcotic residue and hypodermic needles, along with suspected methamphetamine, Testosterone Cypionate, and Oxycodone, none of which were prescribed or in their proper container.

Cantrell was also determined to be under the influence while operating the vehicle and was arrested at the scene, charged with the following:

  • Speeding
  • DUI
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
  • Trafficking in a Controlled Substance 2nd Degree/ 1st Offense (Anabolic Steroid)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Offense (Methamphetamine)
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance  1st Degree/ 1st Offense (Opiates)

Cantrell was transported to the Christian County Jail.
