The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is receiving reports of yet another scam that is making its rounds here in Christian County.
Â
According to reports, the scam is being perpetrated by phone and the caller is posing as a Deputy or Deputies from our department. The caller tells the individual that they are calling on behalf of the Christian County Sheriff’s Office to inform them that they have been negligent in some type of jury/ grand jury proceedings and they are now facing criminal charges.Â
They are using Captain Chris Miller’s name, along with names such as “Deputy Mike Lee” and Deputy Jones”. They then tell the subject to call a number, in most instances the number is 270-238-6114, to take care of the situation, where they will attempt to gather their information. They are apparently able to use “ghost numbers” which means they can basically have a local number show up on the caller ID on the other end.
The Christian County Sheriff’s Office will NOT CALL you for any jury-related matters. That contact will be made by either staff at the Justice Center or the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
Please don’t give any information to these recent scammers. The best practice is to just HANG UP THE PHONE.
